A delegation of faculty members of the oldest medical institute of Central Asia visited St Petersburg.
Representatives of Samarkand State Medical Institute (SamSMI) met with Rector of Saint-Petersburg State Pediatric Medical University, Dmitry Ivanov. The parties discussed a number of issues related both to the training of medical specialists and patient care.

Head of Department of Scientific Research, Innovation and Training of Scientific-Pedagogical Staff of Samarkand State Medical Institute Farkhod Mavlyanov recalled historical ties between Saint Petersburg and Samarkand.
- During World War II many Leningrad doctors worked in our institute, they became founders of our medicine. Many of our faculty members defended PhD and doctoral dissertations under the supervision of your scientists, - said Farkhod Mavlyanov.
Guests from Uzbekistan toured the territory of the Pediatric University and the museum of the university. Particular interest was paid to the part of the exposition related to the activities of Girey Bairov. Representatives of Samarkand State Medical Institute reported that the famous children`s surgeon taught a pleiad of Uzbek doctors.
The parties signed a cooperation agreement.
Representatives of the Saint-Petersburg State Pediatric Medical University are planning to pay a return visit to the Samarkand State Medical Institute.
