According to the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.dated June 20, 2006 - “On the Organization of Information and Library Support for the Population of the Republic”. University libraries began to function as - Information Resource Centers (IRC).
In accordance with the Law on Information and Library Activities of April 13, 2011.
The purpose of this Law is to regulate relations in the field of Information and library activities.
Taking into account modern requirements, conditions have been created for a wider and systemic information support for users, focused on satisfying the intellectual needs of the younger generation, preserving cultural, spiritual and moral values.
The Fund of the Information Resource Center is replenished with the latest medical literature published by leading republican publishers and publishers of foreign countries.
The IRC SamGMI Fund has more than 350 thousand printed units of educational, scientific, educational, methodical, fiction and foreign literature. At the disposal of users 115 000 copies of educational literature, 175 151 copies of scientific literature. In addition to books in Uzbek (Latin, Cyril) and Russian, the departments also have fundamental foreign editions of textbooks and study guides in English and German. The Foreign Literature Fund has about 10 thousand printed units
Each year, the IRC receives about 40 titles of Russian scientific medical journals and more than 70 titles of The center's services are used by more than 8 thousand users, and the number of sources issued is more than 500 thousand copies. IRM SamMI serves students, undergraduates, clinical residents, cadets of the Institute for Advanced Medical Studies, faculty, as well as specialists in related medical professions. The number of visits per year is more than 200 thousand.
Multimedia materials are provided for users, including audio and video materials on anatomy, plastic surgery, cardiology, laboratory diagnostics, biology, physics, chemistry of forensic medicine, pediatric surgery, anesthesiology and intensive care and other subjects, as well as monographs, textbooks and teaching aids in all areas of medicine.
In March 2011, the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On Information and Library Activities” was adopted.
The main tasks of which are:
• providing users with access to information and library resources;
• creation of conditions to satisfy the intellectual, spiritual, moral, cultural and educational needs of users;
• assistance in the revival and further development of national culture, preservation of the historical, spiritual and cultural heritage of the people of Uzbekistan;
SamMI Electronic Library is a comprehensive information resource containing:
• constantly updated and reliable medical information necessary for students and medical workers, presented in electronic form and on the Internet, necessary for training and information support;
• software products that allow you to quickly and conveniently find the necessary information
The purpose of the creation of electronic education is to improve the quality of medical education and the effectiveness of medical care.
To maintain the electronic catalog, the ARMAT programis used. The electronic catalog includes bibliographic records of monographs, textbooks, teaching aids, dissertations and abstracts of dissertations, works of scientists at SamMI, medical periodicals.
Currently, the electronic library fund has more than 10 thousand electronic versions. These are textbooks, manuals, lectures, curricula, atlases, encyclopedic material, study guides, journal articles, works of art and other publications.
An important role in the development of science belongs to the medical library of the Samarkand Medical Institute. It was organized in 1934 and was located on the territory of the current 1st clinical hospital of SamMI
From the first steps, the library had many tasks. It was necessary to formulate and systematize the book fund, to carry out the laborious work of creating catalogs.
A lot of energy and labor was given to the organization and strengthening of the library by its first director - head of the department of histology and embryology prof. G.M. Semenov.
In the first years of its existence, the library stock totaled about 30 thousand. printed units. Later, he replenished with literature received as a gift from prof. G.G. Abdullaev, P.N. Karlenko, F.M. Goluba, I.P. Mishchenko, P.M. Isaev, F.I. Shevchenko, associate professors H.R. Farkhadi, M. Asadulina, M.G. Irene, D.H. Rakhmanova etc.
During the Second World War, the Military Medical Academy named after CM. Kirov and as a kind of memory of them there were unique rare editions. Many of these publications can be called rare, because most of the books were released back in the 19th and early 20th centuries. This is the famous "Encyclopedic Dictionary" of Brockhaus F.A. and Efron I.A. (1890-1907), “The Real Encyclopedia of Medical Sciences (1891), there are books on anatomy, physiology, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, etc., as well as doctoral and master's dissertation .The fund is widely represented by the works of Sechenov, Pavlov, Pirogov, and other founders of medical science, which are of great cultural and scientific value.
By the beginning of 1939, there were 37 thousand books in the library of the institute, by the end of 1949 - 78 thousand, and now the book fund exceeds 350 thousand.
In the early years of its existence, the library served only 200 readers, of which 105 students and 56 teachers, and now it is used by more than 8 thousand users.
The medical library maintains close ties with the largest medical libraries of universities in the country - the State Scientific Medical Library of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Regional Scientific and Medical Library Health., Scientific and Medical Libraries of the 1-Moscow Medical Institute. I.M.Sechenev, 2-Moscow Medical Institute. N.I. PirogovTernopil National Medical University named after I. Y. Gorbachevsky of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, TashMA, TashfarMI, AndMI, BukhMI and many others.
Over the entire history of its existence, the library has been awarded honorary diplomas more than once, it has won first places in the review of medical libraries organized by the Republican Organizing Committee, it has a “First Degree Diploma” of the Ministry of Culture. For high performance, many library staff were awarded with diplomas of the Ministry of Higher Education, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the administration and the local committee.
