HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT


  The Faculty of Advanced Training and Retraining of Doctors is organized within the Samarkand State Medical Institute by order of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated 29 September 1980. Izrail Gavrilovich Priev was appointed the first dean of the faculty. Then the leadership of the faculty was entrusted to Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor A.M.Aslanov (1983 - 1992). From 1992 to 1995 the Dean of the Faculty was Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor A.A.Davidyan - he founded the Department of Therapy and until 2007 was its head. In 1995-2008 the dean of the faculty was K.R.Dilmuradova, doctor of medical sciences, associate professor, head of the course of neonatology at FUV. In 2008, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor L.R.Aghababyan was appointed to this position, and she worked until 2011. From 2011 to 2015, the faculty was headed by Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor A.K.Shakhriev.
  According to the order of the Rector of Samarkand State Medical Institute No 326 of 23.03.2017. in order to further improve the system of professional development of medical workers, ensure constant updating of their professional knowledge and practical skills in working with modern medical equipment and information technologies, effective use of the latest achievements in the field of domestic and world medicine; expansion of opportunities for professional development and retraining of specialists in practical health care through the use of human resources and material and technical base of Samarkand State Medical Institute.
  1980 - a course on Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the Medical Faculty of Samarkand State Medical Institute, headed by Academician I.Z. Zakirov. The first head of the course was Associate Professor Angela Norovna Yakubova. The course instructor was Candidate of Medical Sciences Ibadova Shirin Khatamovna.

  From 1983-1988 the course was separated and the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of FUV was established on the basis of 2 maternity hospitals in Samarkand. The head of the department was Associate Professor Melikulov Kholmurod Melikulovich. Melikulov H.M. was one of the leading teachers of the interdisciplinary course, professional module on obstetrics and gynecology. Having a wide life and professional outlook, a high level of self-education and self-development, Melikulov H.M. used in the educational process active and interactive forms of classes in combination with extracurricular work to form and develop general and professional competencies of students.

  The Department's staff included Associate Professor Nabiyeva Mariam Abduganievna, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Khasanova Zebo Sharipovna and Candidate of Medical Sciences, Akhmedzhanova Maria Bekzhanovna.
From 1988-1989, the post of head of the department was temporarily filled by Associate Professor Nabiyeva Maryam Abduganievna.
  Since 1989, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Safarov Aliaskar Tursunovich was elected as the Head of the Department. Safarov A.T. has higher education, in 1971 he graduated from the medical faculty of SamGosMI on speciality - treating physician. In 1972-1975 he underwent clinical residency. From 1975-1980 - obstetrician gynaecologist at maternity hospital No.2, from 1980-1987 - assistant to the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at SamMI. From 1988-1994 he worked as a chief physician at maternity hospital No.2. He has over 30 years of pedagogical experience. Having a wide life and professional outlook, a high level of self-education and self-development, Safarov A.T. uses in the educational process active and interactive forms of classes in combination with extracurricular activities to form and develop general and professional competencies of students, systematically conducts additional classes and consultations, paying special attention to the preparation of cadets. In order to prepare competitive specialists, A.T. Safarov pays much attention to replenishing and updating the material and technical base of the course.
  In 1995, the department was transferred to the Regional Perinatal Centre. The head of the department was Associate Professor Melikulov Kholmurod Melikulovich.
  Since 2002, the Head of the Department was elected Associate Professor Safarov Aliaaskar Tursunovich, who headed the Department until 2020.

  Since 2020 the chair has been headed by Associate Professor, Candidate of Medical Sciences Larisa Rubenovna Aghababyan. The purposeful and systematic activity of the chair allows achieving high results in mastering the educational program of professional module on obstetrics and gynecology.

  Professor D.N.Abdullayev, Professor U.O.Hashimov, Candidate of Medical Sciences M.K.Haidarova have worked at the department in different years.

  Over 200 specialists graduate from the faculty every year.

  During these years more than 50 master's degree residents and 60 clinical residents graduated from the faculty.


SPIRITUAL AND EDUCATIONAL WORK OF THE DEPARTMENT


  Leisure of cadets and future specialists is also carried out in cultural work. One of the main activities of the department is the formation of high moral values, fostering interest in professional activities, the need for a healthy lifestyle, attracting students to cultural events of the institute. To carry out these tasks at the department, a curator is assigned to the groups from among experienced teachers. Under the guidance of curators, cadets actively participate in social events, organize cultural leisure, visit historical monuments and sights of Samarkand, theaters and museums.
  Much attention is paid to physical education and sports. Master's students and clinical residents visit sports sections in tennis, chess, football, basketball, volleyball, national wrestling, martial arts, athletics, which function on the basis of the sports complex of the institute. They actively participate in both regional and Republican sports competitions.
  As the Eastern wisdom says - "It is not possible to separate education from upbringing and vice versa, upbringing from education." More than 200 specialists are trained at the faculty annually.

  Spiritual and educational work is carried out on the basis of an approved plan, according to which various events are held dedicated to historical dates, national holidays, sports competitions, etc. Various meetings are held together with the internal affairs bodies, law enforcement agencies, centers of spirituality and other partner organizations.

  Each curator has a work plan, on the basis of which he conducts various activities with the curator group. Each curator has information about each student, and his daily routine. There are also albums and discs, which reflect the plots of the events held. Every Thursday classes begin with an introduction to the Information Hour.

  In honor of the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan, two members of the department were awarded with state awards.

SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH WORK


  The scientific work of the department's staff has always been closely linked to the training of scientific and pedagogical staff and the requirements of practical health care; at present, it is aimed at solving the problems defined by the state programme for the development of science and technology.
It is noteworthy that employees of the department take part in competitions for grant applications to perform their scientific research.
  Over the last 3 years, more than 110 scientific works have been published as a result of completed research works, including 60 abroad.

  Employees of department: Nasirova Z.A. and Ahmedova A.T. successfully defended PhD dissertations in medical sciences on specialty 14.00.01- Obstetrics and gynecology in 2021.

   Agababyan L. R. is a master trainer certified by JHPIEGO Corporation "A John Hopkins Program for International Education and Training in Reproductive Health", an international consultant (UNFPA) on compilation of training package on family planning and facilitation of training courses: "Improving the knowledge and skills of primary health-care workers in family planning from the perspective of current WHO recommendations", "Emergency obstetric care", "Preventing infections" and "Post-abortion care"; international consultant (World health organization) on the development of training material on clinical teaching skills in reproductive health; international cooperation with: Russia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, as well as with USA

  Based on the contract of GFA-consulting group within the framework of GFA Health Programme - Reproductive Health/Improvement of Mother and Child Care according to preliminary made plan of training of nurses and midwives as national trainers in cycle "Skills of clinical training in RH/PS counselling" 79 midwives and 27 trainers of Centre of Professional Development and Specialization of Medical and Pharmaceutical workers from all regions of Uzbekistan were trained in period of 2020-2021.

  Associate Professor Ahababyan L.R. was awarded the badge "Excellent person of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan" and Certificate of Merit of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan for work in preserving and strengthening the health of our people.
