The department of surgery, endoscopy and anesthesiology- reanimatology care of the faculty of postgraduate education of the Samarkand State medical institute was founded in 1983. The founder and first head of the department, at that time the chief surgeon of the region, candidate of medical sciences was associate docent A.I. Sidorenko (1983-88).
In 1988 professor S.A. Abdullaev.
In 1993-95, the department was transformed into a course, and in 1995 it was again transformed into a department. At that time the department was located on the basis of the surgical department of the Samarkand city clinical hospital №1. After that, the department at for some time was transferred to the base of the surgical department was transferred to the base of the surgical department of the Samarkand district central hospital
In 1997 the department was transferred to the base of the surgical department of the Regional United Hospital No. 1. Since 2000, the base of the
department until the present time is the Samarkand branch of the Republican Scientific Center for Emergency Aid.
Professor S.A. Abdullaev headed the department until the 2003-2004 academic year.
From the beginning of the 2004-2005 academic year, the department was headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor J.A. Akhtamov. At the same time, he was the director of the Samarkand branch of the Republican Scientific Center for Emergency Aid.J. A. Akhtamov in 1996 was one of the first in the country to establish a multifuncti-onal endoscopic surgery center at the Samarkand City Clinical Hospital No. 1 and began working as the head of this department. Since 2002, this department has the status of the Regional Center for Endosurgery. J.A. Akhtamov was one of the first in the first in the country to introduce into practice endoscopic operations on the abdominal organscavity, small pelvis and urinary tract.
In 1996, he founded the Ibn Sina Foundation for the Promotion of Medical Technologies and the журнал Promotion of Medical Technologies and the scientific and practical journal “Herald of the General Practitioner”, which was regularly published through this foundation. He was the deputy editor-in-chief of this magazine on a voluntary basis. At the same time, he worked as the executive secretary of the journal "Surgery of Uzbekistan".

From the 2008-2009 academic year to the present head the department is Associate Professor Narzullaev S.I.
In 1972 he defended his Ph.D. thesis.
In 1974 he was awarded the badge "Excellence in Health Care".
Associate professor since 1984. The huge contribution he makes to the education of young people, serving as an example to follow Sanat Inoyatovich is an innovator and initiator of many innovations and good beginnings in the social life of the institute. He is one of the founders of the introduction of laparoscopy in Samarkand for differential diagnostic purposes.
S.I. Narzullaev generously shares his experience and rich knowledge with young doctors, contributes to the formation of a new worldview in them and introduces them to new technologies in the field of surgery.
Participated in a number of scientific and scientific-practical international and republican conferences. He has published over 200 scientific papers, 20 educational, teaching aids.
Recognition of his great merits and contribution to the protection of the health of citizens is the fact that in connection with the 90th anniversary of the Samarkand Medical Institute he was awarded the second time with the badge "Excellence in Health Care".
SPIRITUAL AND EDUCATIONAL WORKS
Spiritual and educational work at the department is carried out according to the plan from the beginning of each academic year. The purpose of enlightenment and spirituality is to increase and enrich the ideological and political knowledge not only of the staff of the department, but also of every listener who comes to the department to improve their qualifications in order to keep abreast of events in our country and around the world. For this purpose, there is a time for briefing in each cycle. The historical monuments of Samarkand and the museum of our institute will be visited by students of each cycle, undergraduates, and clinical residents.

EDUCATIONAL AND METHODOLOGICAL WORK
One of the main tasks of the department is educational work. Every doctor who graduates from the institute must complete postgraduate training within the first three years. This is the demand of the day. Educational work at the department is carried out on the basis of the curriculum approved by the Tashkent Institute for Advanced Medical Studies and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The staff of the department: head of the department, Ph.D., 2 associate professors, Ph.D., 1 assistant, Ph.D., and 4 assistants. All conditions have been created for conducting a high-quality educational process at the department. Classrooms are equipped with modern visual aids.

One of the main tasks of the department staff is the use of new educational technologies as an educational process. The main goal of this is to strengthen the knowledge base of each trainee who comes to the training, to apply a practical approach to better master the practical skills developed on the topic of the cycles. For each period, tests and situational questions were created.

Currently, the staff of the department annually organizes cycles for surgeons in our region and neighboring regions (Kashkadarya, Surkhandarya, Bukhara, Navoi, Khorezm and Jizzak). In addition, for a number of years, employees of the department in neighboring regions (Kashkadarya, Navoi, Jizzakh), in addition to improving the qualifications and practice of surgeons, have been providing practical assistance to the local population.
During the on-site cycles, practical conferences on topical issues of medicine are held together with other specialists.

In 2020, 9 employees worked at the department. 4 of them are candidates of medical sciences; 5 without degrees. The scientific potential of the department is 44.4%.
The scientific direction of the department is the treatment of burns, as well as the treatment of combined organs of injuries of the chest and abdomen.
The faculty of the department in the 2019-2020 academic year published 45 scientific works (5 guidelines and recommendations, 4 certificates, 2 rationalization proposals, 20 articles and 14 theses). Of the published works of Scopus and Web of Science - 5 articles, 6 articles and 7 abstracts in foreign and CIS editions, 4 articles and 12 abstracts in republican editions.
During the year, the staff of the department participated in 3 international scientific conferences and were awarded certificates.
